The capital of Lower Saxony, N Germany, Hannover is on the Leine River and the Midland Canal.
Especially during the summertime, Hanover is a mecca for those who love life. Every year in June top musicians from all over the world gather in the 'Pavillon', a culture center, to play at the World Music Festival 'Masala'. The musicians, that perfom at this festival, are rarely on tour in Germany. The annual "Kleines Fest im Grossen Garten" (the small party in the grand garden) is particularly popular. Here all sorts of entertainers, cabaret artists and musicians turn the garden into a stage in July. The 'Grosser Garten' houses among other things the romantic 'Herrenhauser Illumination': from June to August you can go for a stroll through the park of Herrenhausen Castle with its beautifully lit fountains and baroque music everywhere – it’s a hot spot for lovebirds.
