Wilkommen zu Deutschland
OK so Germany doesn't exactly have an exotic climate, golden beaches or blue skies almost all year round but somehow it makes a great holiday and its cheap too.
I visited some of the small towns and villages in the mid west of the country and I must say that I found it much more enjoyable in a rural area than I would in a big busting German city. Maybe the cities have the sites and night life what the German country side makes up for this with it spectacular scenery and its here that you really get to experience the German culture. You get to see the vineyards and although German wine isn't exactly known round the world make sure this fits into your holiday, it is very interesting.
The villages and towns have medieval parts to them with huge stone blocks making up the buildings which line the narrow cobbled streets. You will find yourself admiring the architecture just as much as looking for souveniers.
Their is an adundance of small hotels throughout the towns that I travelled to and I prefer these because the are often family run and have a much more friendly atmosphere to them. The hotel I stayed in overlooked the Rhine and almost all the rooms had great views of the surrounding landscape.
I would recommend this to anyone who thinking of a relaxing and cheap break in Europe but maybe this isn't one for the kids.
