Supermarket Sweep in Andorra

"In Andorra, all goods are tax-free. During my stay in Spain some time ago, my friends and I joined a half-day shopping trip to Andorra. The fare was quite reasonable at £7 per person. Our coach set off at 5am from Barcelona and crossed the border with Andorra at about 8am. After a further 10-minute drive, we arrived at a supermarket situated amongst the snowy mountains. When we were still admiring the scenery and taking pictures, all our fellow travelers had already disappeared in thin smoke. The Spanish lady who organized the trip pointed out that we only had one hour to do our shopping. We then rushed into the supermarket, pushed our trolleys frenziedly and grabbed whatever seemed cheap on the shelves. It was like Supermarket Sweep as seen on TV! The supermarket is huge with two floors selling foodstuff, household and electrical goods. For about £10 you can buy a bottle of whisky, I mean 2-litre bottle. £9 can get you 200 cigarettes with a free gift attached. One of us got a Sony mini hi-fi for £80 and latest Playstation-2 software for £20. As a non-smoker myself, I bought some continental chocolates, cheese, whisky, aftershave, etc. In the end, it was a very fruitful shopping trip for all of us. Andorra is a small mountainous country and does not have any airport. You can only get there by roads or railways from Spain or France. Visa is not required for British citizens but you need a valid passport. Spanish is spoken there and Spanish peseta is widely accepted. You can of course use your British credit/debit cards. NB The prices shown here have been converted from Spanish peseta to British pound. "
